Anxiety Management"

Does your child worry a lot?

Does your child predict fearful things such as “bad guys” or making friends?

Does your child repeatedly ask about the schedule for the day?

Does your child get upset when things are out of place or don’t go as planned?

If you answered “yes”, then it sounds like your child may have an anxious temperament and…

…WE CAN HELP NOW!

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is neither good nor bad.  It is simply one of many emotions that we experience.

The body speeds up.  The heart rate increases, blood flow and breath speed up.  Anxiety also creates a decrease in saliva production causing dry mouth, upset stomach and an overall increased tension in the muscles.

Anxiety Temperament

Every child is born with his or her own unique characteristics and tendencies in how he or she reacts and responds to their environment.  Some children have temperamental styles and they react more easily and intensely than others.  Temperament is wired into us.  You can perceive a child’s temperament at very early ages.

We need to accept that this is how they are.  What you do with anxiety, how you behave or react to anxiety, can either potentially hurt or benefit your life.

Anxiety and the environment

Although some children become anxious more easily than others, a child’s environment can impact how they might respond to a situation such as:

-        Gender and Cultural Differences

-        Role Models

-        Trauma and Stress

The key is learning how to manage anxiety, not to prevent it.

Behavioral coaching sets up your child for success by:

-        discovering the message behind the anxiety

-        celebrating the value of anxiety

-        And teaching you how to manage the difficult behaviors that come with anxiety.
