Self Esteem"

Does your child struggle to make friends?

Does your child isolate him or herself?

Does your child have intense crying spells or go into periods of rage for little or no reason?

Your child may need a self-esteem boost.

What is self-esteem?

Self-esteem is:

-        How we feel about ourselves

-        How we value ourselves

Self-esteem is our “self-perception.”

It influences every part of our lives.

Children with low self-esteem tend to struggle with the challenges of everyday life.  They have a higher risk of vulnerability to:

-        Peer pressure

-        Overly self-critical

-        Relationship problems

-        Drug and alcohol use

Children with high self-esteem tend to be better equipped to manage everyday challenges.  They are more likely to:

-        Trust their own judgment

-        Be self-directed and goal oriented

-        Be able to cope with adversity

-        Have healthier relationships

Building Self-Esteem

How can you help?

-        Connect with your child

-        Model good self-esteem

-        Acknowledge thoughts and feelings

-        Give back control

-        Set them up for success

Your child could also benefit from behavioral coaching.

Behavioral coaching can help teach you how to build and strengthen your child’s self-esteem more quickly.
